Clogged Nozzle and Cold Pulls: Find Where the Plug Sits, Diagnosed in 4 Questions
The print is running, the head is moving — and nothing is coming out. Or almost nothing: a thin, curling dribble where a clean strand should be, an extruder clicking against a wall it cannot push through. That is a clog — but "clogged nozzle" is a location guess, not a diagnosis, and it is wrong often enough to matter: the plug can sit in the nozzle, above it in the heatbreak, or further up in the tube, and each address has a different cure. In the FixMyPrint community dataset, clogging and heat creep together account for 764 of more than 20,000 help posts — a count of community help posts in that analysis, not a measurement of how often nozzles clog across all printers. Instead of a fix list, this guide asks four triage questions: real clogs overlap (one jam can click and dribble and return tomorrow), so the questions set an order of suspicion — cheapest discriminating tests first, the plug's location established by evidence before anything is heated, pulled or uns...
